If you can design it, you can print it

That would be awesome to do! That might take awhile to model though. @bryce, you should post in ad in the alchemy section for that

I've thought about making busts of people, the way sculptors used to do in ancient Rome. Now I'm trying to figure out how to market this idea.

One way might be to manufacture a few famous people, like President Obama. I guess no one would get sued for that ... right? And then you could target fan sites and sell a few busts. And then advertise wherever portrait artists advertise, maybe?

What about a chess set that uses busts of celebrities, cast in gold or silver? I'd LOVE to do it, but I'm worried the time and cost and advertising efforts wouldn't be worth it.

Wow, casing in silver or gold would be pretty expensive. I like the idea, but what if you just used one or two faces for the entire set? You could use one face on the white side, and the other face on the black side. Maybe a president bush vs president obama set?

LOL very cool idea Abby but done in real silver you may need a celeb or president to actually buy them ! As for laws on this I think you are covered via the fact it would be artistic freedoms. Now on the other hand something like Mickey Mouse you are then going to have to deal with Disney and that is not something you want. I did cake decoration for numerous Dairy Queens. And they forbid us from doing copyright protected characters. Disney would and will sue for unauthorized use of there characters.
